The two-headed serpent, known as the Quetzalcoatl, symbolizes death and resurrection. The Quetzalcoatl battles through duality having to live two opposite lives. Adair Xixe who is a Mexican-American can relate to the theme of duality as he has to live with challenges of being a person with Mayan/ Aztec blood but was born on American soil.
